Noack Landscape Architects: The Green Courtyard of FröbelHöfe

The outdoor spaces at FröbelHöfe were designed by the Dresden-based firm Noack Landscape Architects. Their work focuses on the landscaped inner courtyard, which connects the eight residential buildings and is intended to provide residents with space for relaxation, social interaction and shared activities.

Noack Landscape Architects was founded in 1991. The firm works in the fields of landscape architecture and urban design, creating outdoor spaces for both private and public clients. Its portfolio includes residential landscapes, public squares, educational and sports facilities, as well as historic gardens.

At FröbelHöfe, the firm is working alongside A3 Architekten, Dreßler Bau and other project partners on the development of the residential quarter. While A3 Architekten is responsible for the architectural design of the buildings, Noack Landscape Architects focuses on the outdoor spaces between them.

A Green Heart for the Quarter

The outdoor areas at FröbelHöfe include both ground-level green spaces and landscaped sections above the underground car park. The areas above the garage are designed as intensive green roofs.

At the centre of the quarter, a communal garden is being created. Noack Landscape Architects describes it as a green oasis for the surrounding homes.

The design of the courtyard is coordinated with the residential buildings and their façades. Terraces assigned to the ground-floor apartments are positioned along the buildings and face the landscaped centre of the courtyard. This creates a connection between private outdoor areas and the shared green space.

Inspired by Friedrich Fröbel

The project takes its name from the educator Friedrich Fröbel, after whom the neighbouring Fröbelstraße is also named. His belief that children learn and develop through play and creative activities is reflected in the courtyard concept.

Varied pathways featuring creative ground games invite children to explore and experiment. Play elements made from natural materials are integrated into the courtyard design, while shaped green areas create different zones for movement and relaxation.

Outdoor Spaces for Different Generations

The courtyard is not intended solely as a play area for children. Seating and quieter areas also provide adults and older residents with places to relax.

The private front gardens of the ground-floor apartments complement the landscaping concept, while hedges create a clear separation between private and communal areas.

The courtyard therefore becomes an important part of the residential quarter: a green centre, a meeting place and an outdoor space close to home for residents of different generations.

Through the landscape design by Noack Landscape Architects, FröbelHöfe gains an inner courtyard that combines thoughtful design, greenery and a variety of uses.

The spaces between the buildings are therefore more than just connecting routes. They become an integral part of everyday life within the residential quarter.
